Hybrids – a Wiki

Hybrids are a hybrid of the native Elganian bipedal animals and Humans. The natives of Elgana were commonly known as “bipeds”, and they stand on two legs, have opposable thumbs, and also have intelligence at a similar level to Humans.

Two-hundred and fifty years after the birth of the planet, Humans escaping their home planet, Earth, arrived at Elgana with the aim to colonize. Through slavery and forced integration, the bipeds slowly went extinct except for the blue feline race, Kattaluna whose magical powers the Humans feared.

Many decades later, Hybrid species began to emerge. Some of the first Hybrids were between Humans and feline bipeds (creating the Hybrid species Felissian). In the growing Hybrid race, each biped-Human combination would be known as a sub-species. The leopard type biped and Human combination brought the Ropardia sub-species.

– Hybrids –

Who are they?

As touched on a little above, Hybrids are a result of integration between the native Elganian bipeds and Humans. Hybrids come in different species and can be broken down into various sub-species.

What do they look like?

Well, you can check out my original Hybrid art, in this article 🙂

Hybrids are not half Human and half animal. They are half Human and half bipedal animal meaning that they will have the anatomy of a humanoid more than an animal. Also, Human genes are quite strong, so many Hybrids may lose their fur, scales, or feathers. However, depending on the set of parents, Hybrids may retain more animal parts. These can be any part of their body.

For example, there might be a Leovra sub-species of the Felissian species of Hybrid who has a lion’s head, but the rest of his body is Human. Or, there might be a Ropardia (leopard) sub-species of the Felissian species of Hybrid where most of her body is animal-like, except her hands which are completely no-claws Human hands. Or, you might get an even weirder type of Hybrid where they have Human skin showing only on their backs. Fur or scales or feathers can fall off before puberty if the Hybrid happened to have stronger Human genes.

Siblings can look quite different as well.

What doesn’t exist are chimeras or some odd combination of several bipeds. You can find more about that in this article where I also talk about different species and sub-species of Hybrids.

Habitat

(mostly) Second Ring: The Second Ring is a mixture of developed and under-developed living areas. Hybrids predominately occupy this Ring but you may see some living in the First Ring as well – often with their Human partners.

Hybrids have different species. Some species prefer higher-technology living than others. Some species still live a rather medieval lifestyle.

The pictures below are from my Pinterest board here. If you click it, you can find other images of inspiration. Anyway, imagine concentrated city areas of high-technology (third pic below) contrasting with the rural areas more reflecting medieval times (first pic) and those living in poverty having run-down houses (like the pic in the middle).

Technology

Some areas have adapted Human high-technology. One object that Hybrids use for everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) is their Bolt. A Bolt is like a smartphone, only it has compatibility with paws, can be used to surf the WAVE, make calls, watch the screen (it’s like their version of television, but they call it the screen), and text. It doesn’t have any apps, but it has an array of built-in functions.

Hybrids use cars, buses, and trains. They have monorails, too. The Hybrids’ Ring is not so much different from the Humans’ which, in turn, is not so different from the Earth we know.

Language

The Universal language, species languages, and some sub-species languages.

Gender

Any gender.

Unlike Earth, the idea of gender is a lot less focused on in Elgana, and so, many races don’t pay a mind to it. Especially among Hybrids, it’s not even an acceptance. It’s a natural acknowledgement that there are various genders and sexualities.

Human scientists speculate this characteristic comes from animals, as animals don’t discriminate gender and sexuality like Humans do. Animals will most likely discriminate by body size and physical strength, which does happen among Hybrids.

Diet

Anything we eat today in our world, they eat. Certain sub-species may also have their own culinary culture. One thing that might be different is that the bird-types might not eat fowl. They see it as cannibalism 😛

Hierarchy

Many Hybrids still practice tribal structure when it comes to their species, sub-species leaders. This practice has been passed down from their bipedal ancestors. On top of that, they have also adopted the Human democratic election system.

This makes things interesting.

Each sub-species of Hybrid (Ropardia, Leovra, for example) chooses one of their kind to put up for election. This is done by campaigning. The most that can campaign at once is five.

Then either two or three will be put up for the Voting of the Chief of Hybrids. All Hybrids are encouraged to vote (although some don’t).

The chosen Chief of Hybrids will then choose the ones to work for them out of the ones that lost the campaign. It does not have to be the same species (a feline species Felissian Chief can choose a Reptilen species to work with), and it doesn’t have to be the same sub-species (a Leovra Chief can choose a dog-type sub-species if they want) either.

Any combination is works as long as they can work together.

The Chief will be in power for three years.

This Chief should not be confused with the village chiefs. Village chiefs are sub-species specific and only deal with the local affairs. Think of a local sheriff in a small southern town, or a tribal shaman in the rainforests on Earth. The village chiefs of Hybrids are often passed down through generations.

Magical Power

Some sub-species of Hybrids are more inclined to be born with the genetic ability to access the natural magick in Elganian air such as the Kraitai sub-species (polar bear parts with human parts) who can freeze water particles and make ice.

Any amount of magick in the veins allows the user to live longer (age slower), so many who can use magick like the Kraitai choose to live as Sorcerers either in the Fourth Ring with other Sorcerers, or as traveling Sorcerers.

If you wanna know all about Sorcerers (because they are not your traditional Sorcerers) you can click here.

In terms of their government, Hybrids divide themselves into two controlled areas.

One is, large cities back to back which act as a place where Hybrids go to work and become successful. It is called by several names: the Hub, the Buzz (because of the buzzing sound you hear when many voices are talking at once), the Harbor (being at the edge of a large lake), and humorously, the Herd. The third pic you see above accurately represents this area.

Another is, a large area subdivided into smaller areas of Territories with each area occupied by a certain species of Hybrid and then further, villagetowns occupied by a certain sub-species. In the modern days, Territories are only loose borders for village chiefs to maintain and Hybrids freely mingle with each other.

For example, villagetown Marmaglaid is a rural farming town known for orange trees and marmalade. It used to only have Sarvai (fox biped-Human Hybrid sub-species). Today, many Ropardia and Haundai (dog biped-Human Hybrid sub-species) live there as well as these two sub-species also do farming for a living and were attracted to the area’s vast plains and fields.

Marriage is allowed between different species (there are cases of feline species marrying canine species). However, they won’t be able to conceive. Only the same species can produce offspring.
