Sorcerers are a race. They are not something some random person like you or I can become through training.

One can only be a Sorcerer if they have the genetics to access the magick that is in the air and have magick in their veins. Children show signs they can use the magick the moment they are born. It shows as little white sparks in their little baby hands.
Magick also exists in the Sorcerer’s veins making them age slower. Slow aging only happens after the Sorcerer hits puberty and after they develop their Faud, a creature which is a manifestation of their magick. It can come out of the Sorcerer’s body and interact with them like a familiar. The Sorcerer can talk to their Faud and Fauds can fight each other in battle. A similar phenomenon to Fauds can be found in other races.
Magick Manifestation: how magick develops on Elgana (for Sorcerers it’s Fauds but other races have the manifestation within their bodies) Coming Soon…
Sorcerers can have children with no magick abilities (Sorcerer-born Humans/Hybirds). Humans can have children who are Sorcerers (Human-born Sorcerers).
Human-born or Hybrid-born Sorcerers will be adopted out to Sorcerer families. Otherwise, it would be pretty depressing having to live in a world where you outlive everyone around you.

Who are they?
Sorcerers are beings that have the genetics to access the magick in the air. The way they access the magick is through their skin like a sponge. The magick cannot be breathed in or eaten.
Sorcerers regard themselves as an elite race. They aren’t far off. They do have a lot of advantages against other races when it comes to magick, as their magick is the most diverse–able to do a lot of things.
Ancient Elganians had elemental magick like fire, water, or earth and any variations of the magick, and this all came from the magick in the air. However, for various reasons like Human integration or technological advancement or safer cities, ancient Elganians began to use their magick less and soon it died out. This fading of magick of the ancients and coincided with the rise of the Sorcerer Race, making them one of the most magically powerful creatures.
Sorcerers went on to experimenting more and more, expanding on their book of spells all the time. Still to this day in Modern Elgana, Sorcerers are finding new spells or ways to manipulate magick.
Despite they are the strongest magically (honestly, that should satisfy them, but who are we kidding?), a majority of Sorcerers are always trying to achieve an top status in the world. They flaunt all the time, always go above and beyond, and move up from a Scholar to a Professor, and some are lucky enough to become an Arch (pronounced: ark).
What do they look like?
Sorcerers can be either Human or Hybrid. They dress in predominately darker cloaks at night and brighter-colored cloaks in the morning. If you ever do get into the Fourth Ring where they live, during the daytime everyone is dressed colorfully most of the time.

Habitat
Fourth Ring: Only Sorcerers occupy this Ring. During the ancient days of Elgana when Humans first arrived, Sorcerers didn’t exist. The concept and name of “Sorcerer” only came about when some Humans discovered they could access the magick in the air. When deciding on a place to live, at the time, they considered all the Rings.
The Third Ring was occupied by the feline biped species, Kattaluna, who were, at the time, feared by many Humans because of their unique lunar magick. The Fourth Ring was where Sorcerers had escaped discrimination from their fellow Humans or Hybrids. At the time, Sorcerers were shunned and ridiculed, called “abomination” by many in their originating communities.
The Fifth Ring was occupied by Kaunlutha, a species of lionkind feline bipeds, and other feline bipeds. The Sixth Ring was too chemically toxic for anyone to live on except the shapeshifting shadow beasts, Ilvagis. The First and Second Rings were not an option because the Humans without magick and the native Elganian bipeds being integrated were trying to settle there.
The Sorcerers decided to remain in the Fourth Ring. Overtime, it turned out to be the best decision as the other Rings would suffer from magick fading, making the density of magick strongest in the Fourth Ring.

Sorcerers and Races
Sorcerers rarely allow visitors of other races into their Ring. If some other race happens upon the Fourth Ring, kidnapping is all too common. As horrible as it sounds, Sorcerers have justified themselves claiming aesthetic ethics if they do happen to hurt or kill another race that has wandered into their Ring.
In recent years of Modern Elgana, Sorcerers have begun to change and it came to light that their elitism and racial discrimination was mainly because of their insecurities about themselves. They, too, were once discriminated, so have resorted to being tough, even bullies. Always be the best and then become even better, was their way of thinking.
Sorcerers are naturally competitive and see any competition as good competition. Sorcerers often berate each other and look down at each other. They think holding themselves up high and putting others down is the way life should be, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t hurting. They wouldn’t admit it, but it’s difficult for them to express their real emotions.

What the Fourth Ring Looks Like
The Fourth Ring is mainly filled with cities of stone and wood. Unoccupied areas include a vast swath of forest on the south side and a large lake in the north.
One interesting part about the Fourth Ring, is this chunk of land that has been broken off, yet is still livable and Sorcerers have made a city out of it. It’s nearly suspended in space between the Fourth and the Fifth Rings.
It is the Fourth Ring that the last portal (the Edge Portal) connecting Rings exists and is usually heavily guarded by Sorcerers of the High Collection police.

Gender
Male, female, neutral, gender fluid, and anything in between.
Sorcerers of the older eras discriminated against gay couples only believing in heterosexual couples and lesbian couples as being “aesthetically good” in the Sorcerer way. Modern Elgana, a time that’s marked by the activation of the Scepter of Tamido, shows Sorcerers gradually letting go of their old “aesthetic ethics” and accepting gay couples and those with physical or magical differences.

Hierarchy
Sorcerers have different ranks depending on the level of magick they can perform. These ranks are received from the High Collection Sorcerer representative, and other Sorcerers working in the High Collection. They, together with some renowned teachers in academies, choose candidates to grant such ranks. After much deliberation, it’s the representative that has the final say.
School Ranks: Apprentice, Junior, Scholar
After Graduation Ranks: Professor, Arch
Scholar: Sorcerers who graduate at scholar will often go out to get normal jobs (seamstress, cook, mechanic, merchant, etc.) while maintaining “magick health” through mundane activities like locking the door, drying clothes, cleaning the rooms, etc.

Professor: Usually most Sorcerers will stop at Scholar or Professor. However, there is another rank called Arch but only a small number can reach that rank as it can take up to a hundred years to get there.
Arch: Pronounced as “ark”. Currently, there are three Archs. There were four, but one has retired. Arch is a title and a job which they get paid through taxes on citizens.

Age
You probably noticed but I just said it takes up to a hundred years for Professors to become Archs.
How the frickin’ long do these guys live?
The oldest living Sorcerer is around 600 years old and currently, the planet Elgana is 800 years old. Think about that.

If you take the magick from the Sorcerer, age will catch up rapidly and they may die depending on how old they were and how strong their magick was.

Language
Previously: Mainly Runic Tongue and early Universal language.
Currently: Universal language (with some dialect differences)
Runic Tongue, is the old, spell-casting language and the magick created using Runic Tongue is often called runic magick (how creative! I know). The individual letters (called runes) were like stand-alone words. Sorcerers used to learn Runic Tongue and then learn how to mesh together different runic symbols and make a whole new rune with a new meaning basically creating new spells.
But for a Sorcerer to use Runic Tongue commonly had its downsides. Runic Tongue could only be used if the Sorcerer had considerably good control over their magick. The Sorcerer had to know all the ins and outs of magick, and be able to create their own spells with minimal effort.
When Sorcerers discovered that Universal language works just as well, you bet they switched over. Most Sorcerers of the modern era use Universal language to cast spells. Today, even in school, Runic Tongue is gone. Learning the language is left up to the individual Sorcerer. Even Sorcerers who are ancient enough to remember Runic Tongue have “unlearned” it. After not using it for so long, they don’t remember how to use most of it.
Or maybe they’re just too lazy to traipse down to the forbidden section of the Academy library and get their hands or paws or claws on the old runic books. The written form has been documented meticulously. It’s just a matter of finding it in the vast collection of scrolls, tomes, and other written works.
In modern days, most magick is cast using concentration and focusing on the intent of the magick. When the intent is clear, the magick will work. Spells are rarely said out loud. Some Sorcerers believe saying the spell is “good aesthetics”, so they use it as a flaunt as if to tell the rest of society how great they are for knowing such complicated words.
Spells are developed from Runic Tongue and made easier to say with more variation, so that it’s closer to a language with structured sentences than individual words strung together.
