Ilvagi – a Wiki

Ilvagis are commonly known as the shapeshifting shadow beasts although they can shapeshift into anything at will, not just into beasts. However, because they have only appeared before other races as beasts, no one really knows Ilvagis are more versatile than they look.

– Ilvagis –

What do they do?

After they win in a war against the Kattaluna race, Ilvagis become the controllers of the Kattalunae. However, apart from enforcing rules and corralling the Kattalunae into one section of the Third Ring, Ilvagis don’t do much to the Kattalunae except forbid the Kattalunae to use their lunar magick for anything other than healing potions which ultimately leads to the dwindling of lunar magick. The aim is to make lunar magick die out for good.

What do they look like?

A shadowy mass that can pass through solid objects at will. They have blood-red eyes with no pupils. They are shapeshifters, can imitate voices, and are good with languages. Some privileged Ilvagis have preferred shapes they take on which most likely reflects their personality.

Habitat

Torus Planet 6 a.k.a the Sixth Ring: The slowest Ring in terms of environmental evolution. A lot of lava and volcanic flat plains. No vegetation. No natural mountains. But a lot of underground caverns. Always hot, dark, and there is a single large bright red sun like a red ball in the sky. The farther north you go the shorter the days are until you get to the farthest north where day never comes and it’s extremely cold.

Ilvagis build upwards. Using molten rock, they create mountainous structures and when it hardens, they carve living spaces on the made mountains.

Male, female, genderless

Language

Their language is often guttural, coming from the throat. They can speak other languages as well: Ancient Kattaluna languages and the Universal language.

Diet

Omnivores

Hierarchy

The Ilvagis live under a monarchy within the Sixth Ring.

King: The highest rank. Everyone must obey the King.

Army of Ilvagis / The Privileges: Everyone must obey the Army. The Army must obey the King.

Gravelings: Gravelings are those that live in the rocky areas surrounding the High Castle of the King. They are mostly families for providing healthy children to make them into Ilvigs (low ranking Ilvagi soldiers). Every single family functions in exactly the same way. They just follow orders and structures and live. In cruel terms, they are almost like cattle.

Mucks: Mucks are those that live near the lava rivers and lakes. Think of them has insects. They live in a large colony and eat, breed, and sleep.

Magick

The Ilvagis have shadow magick. Ones directly under the king have access to soul magick through the King.

Names

Not all Ilvagis have individual names. Only Ilvagis of certain status have individual names which they give to themselves. This privilege is granted by the King. Having an individual name means two things in Ilvagis culture.

  1. It demonstrates their high status.
  2. It tells others they are powerful enough to stand as an individual without the backing up of other Ilvagis.

Yet, some Ilvagis might keep their name hidden from others for whatever reason.

Most often Ilvagis will distinguish each other through sounds or scents.

Extra Information

Traveling to Other Torus Planets

In Modern Elgana, portals have detection systems in place where alarms would go off if an Ilvagi enters a portal. For this reason, Ilvagis typically avoid using portals for travel to not cause commotion. This shows that the whole rest of the world views them as a dangerous species. Ilvagis can fly, so they use that ability to get around and travel between torus planets.

Ilvagi Ruling Is…

a monarchy dictatorship of utter control and strict policies under a single King.

Even when the King is female or genderless, they are still called “King”. This is because the Universal word “king” happens to mean “lord” or “high ruler” in Ilvagi language.

Ilvagis cannot function without rules, orders, or guidelines (such as prophecies). Just like you can’t live without food, Ilvagis can’t live without order and structure.

Without it, they will either go insane, just sit around and do nothing but stare out into space, and in the worse case they can die.

Ilvagis Aspire and Become Individuals with Soul Magick

Ilvagis who don’t have soul magick don’t ever aspire to be anything. That’s not how they function. So, a lesser ranked Ilvagi without soul magick will not wish to be promoted to higher ranks. All they do is become stronger because it is a rule.

Soul magick is a particular type of magick that comes from the soul of the King of Ilvagis, and it also helps Ilvagis express individuality, and it can only be granted by the King only if the King deems that Ilvagi worthy. A special ceremony is performed to assist in accessing soul magick. Otherwise, even those privileged, cannot access soul magick out of the blue.

An Ilvagi will often use soul magick to morph into a mixture of various creatures depending on their personality, give themselves an individual name, or have increasingly individual thoughts separate from the Ilvagi collective.

Also, those Ilvagis with soul magick are stronger than those without because they are able to make decisions that will help the individual to thrive more so than it would have within the mindset of the collective. (Read more: Soul magick for the Privilege of Individuality)
