Porridge Punishment & Cut Characters

You have your world all set up with all the characters in place but then, things change and you have to cut some of them out.

Some of these characters used to have a major role in Liaffon and were given a super minor role.

Some of them were cut and only given cameo appearances.

If they’re lucky, they might get some kind of short story for themselves later but at the moment, ain’t gonna happen 😛

So here they are seeking attention.

Also, don’t judge my last names.

I’m not good with coming up with last names. But I tried really hard.

Clueless Cat is clueless.

Rimiki Gennifield

Age: Early sixties

Gender: Female

Current Role: The village weaver who makes the best apple cinnamon soup ever.

Prior Role: The village weaver who makes the best apple cinnamon soup ever and calls out a toast during their Harvest Feast at the festival. Also, she plays a messenger sort of role for the village leader who calls on MC for something important.

Reason for reduction: No particular contribution to the current version of the story. The messenger role was cut and Rimiki just became unwanted. She does make an appearance but it’s just as a secondary-secondary character.

Yulya Terren

Age: Twenty-one

Gender: Female

Current Role: None.

Prior Role: A possible antagonist. She was also very mean, kind of selfish, self-centered, and very loud and obnoxious.

Reason for removal: A better character version of Yulya was created. She was renamed and recreated. The character is currently quiet, a little mysterious, and knows her place.

Gertude Pennings

Age: Late fifties

Gender: Female

Current Role: Cameo appearance as yelling mother scolding children. Name does not appear.

Prior Role: There was a whole sequence of her trying to get her rascal twin boys to come inside to take their baths otherwise they will “get porridge for supper!” You don’t want porridge for supper.

If you don’t know what porridge is, it’s basically oatmeal with no taste. Try making oatmeal with water instead of milk and eat it with nothing on it. Ugh.

Reason for removal: Just gave me opportunity to show the reader that when villager kids get in trouble, one of the punishment methods is eating porridge. I didn’t have to do that.

Lerii Torsinby

Age: Early twenties

Gender: Male (Yes, I have men in my story. You thought it was all ladies, didn’t you?)

Current Role: Cameo. Name does not appear. Just voices his opinions.

Prior Role: Although the character does the same thing, I had his full name in along with “his pointed chin a distinctive feature”. That sentence you could say with a bit of rhythm and I really liked that.

Reason for removal: Well, that wasn’t a good enough reason to introduce more characters that weren’t going to make any more appearances anywhere else.

Sterk

No last name because I’m too lazy 😛

Age: About seventeen.

Gender: Male

Prior Role: An apprentice at the Glass Wielder’s shop (where MC previously worked full time whereas now MC is the apprentice). Sterk doesn’t make an appearance in this role but “He’s a good kid” that MC’s younger sister doesn’t like.

Current Role: Works in a different job making metal objects and starts a rowdy (riot) in a saloon. This rowdy plays a big part in the story. Thanks Sterk.

Reason for removal of Sterk’s prior role: The apprentice system of the village changed so I didn’t want him there anymore.

That’s all of them. Everyone else got to stay.

Seriously though,

I can’t understand why anyone would want to eat oatmeal with nothing on it.
