It has come to my attention that possibly some of you will have come upon this website, hoping to see what kind of author I am, just like I have, for the first time, gone to visit George R. R. Martin’s website. I discovered his quirky “Not A Blog” which, I speculate, was titled that way to ease the pressure off of himself to blog. I’d never gone to see his website before today but then I saw a video covering a rumor that he was having trouble finishing a book and then became curious about his writing process.
And then, “I wonder what he blogs about?”
He has blogged about his latest story taking a really long time to finish. He has blogged that he has struggles. Nothing surprising there, to me, I mean, I’m a writer who has trouble finishing books and I know plenty others in the same swamp trying to navigate the sticky moss and, uh…this metaphor is going nowhere.
In Which the Great George R. R. Martin proves he’s a writer to his core:
Writing, Reading, Writing (published June 23, 2020): There are moments in this blog post where it becomes clear he has a lot of amazing things going on in his life. He’s not like me at all. Host the Hugo Awards, feature films, television shows, and he’s bought part of a railroad? But then I see he’s like many authors like me who also love to read. He has an extensive to-be-read (TBR) stack fed to by his publisher (not like me) and also by himself. He calls himself a “book junkie”. He also talks about how he wishes he could get the story done faster. It’s not happening as fast as he would like, and many writers, including myself, also have moments like this. Makes me frustrated and I can tell he’s struggling in this moment. I wonder if somewhere in the back of his mind, he feels some sort of pressure?
Random Updates and Bit o’ News (published March 9, 2022): He begins this blog post by saying he doesn’t know what happened with 2021. Me either. It felt like 2020 went on for another year. 2020, 2020, 2022, 2022, 2024. This is what it feels like for me. Idk about you, but the 2020s are weird. Time’s been warped or something. Anyway, he gets into talking a little bit about The Winds of Winter which is the next book in his A Song of Ice and Fire series. He says he keeps getting asked if he’s still working on it and how tiring it is to always have to say “Yes, I’m still working on it.” I understand both sides. Readers wanna gauge about when they can expect the next book. Writers don’t want to be reminded over and over that they are still working on it. It’s similar, I think, to parents being asked by their children during road trips, “Are we there yet?”
And so, there are some things in George R. R. Martin’s life that I can relate to even though he’s so widely successful and popular, and I don’t even know if people know me. Do I want people to know me? Well, yes, I mean, it would be nice if more people knew me.
So, what about me?
So, let’s talk about me now, shall we? If you’ve come here for the first time, you probably wouldn’t know a thing about me. You wouldn’t know I live in Japan, and therefore, in terms of being a writer writing in English, I’m quite isolated. You wouldn’t know I was born in 1992 (go ahead, calculate my age), and you wouldn’t know that, in fact, this is my author website and as of 2024 October, I’m a self-published author.
You also wouldn’t know that I have experience in blogging.
Idk if I was ever good at it, but I loved talking about STUFF in my twenties. Just all kinds of stuff. If you want to indulge, I have about 300 posts or so on this blog. The whole thing now looks so ancient… Go look at the labels. Pick one that intrigues you. Go from there. I’m so unserious 😛 This is my most viewed blog post about Mickey and Minnie. I never did write the sequel.
Now, one update I can give you curious people about me as the author is that I have a YA Portal Fantasy book, Between Roses, which is currently only available as an e-book, and it will soon be available in print. Currently, pushing to get everything together, so that I can make it happen in 2025. When I say “make it happen”, I mean as a self-published author. Nobody else but me over here in charge of making it happen.
So, here you’ve learned a little bit about me. In coming posts, you will learn even more about me. I hope you find it interesting.
